What is the Human experience? Humans
are nothing but biological machines who interpret their surroundings in a
manner constrained by the limits of their perception. Our limits being so
clearly circumscribed by our biological design, it appears that the human
experience does not lie outside of our physical selves. It solely exists in our
brain. While we may pride ourselves with our accidentally imbibed biological
intelligence, there are concepts which we would never understand because our bodies
simply cannot comprehend them.
The carrier of our so called
“conscience” is an imperfect device. The biggest tragedy of the human
experience is that our “conscience” is so entwined with its carrier that it
cannot outlast it. Even though humans have obtained the power of thought, we
lead remarkably monotonous lives. The Human experience has been dwindled down
to a pseudo-animalistic existence.
But what if these shackles were
broken? What if we could leave our physical existence behind and delve in a
world solely created to cater to our higher needs? What if instead of creating
“Artificial Intelligence”, we transmute biological intelligence into artificial
mediums? Better still, what if we live in a formless existence, in a world of
our own creation, wherein we could pursue all that was thought to be impossible.
What if we could become “Sentient Code”, a Code which can create its own
realities and live through them? We could create scenarios of inter-stellar
space travel, we could drown ourselves in the wealth of information possessed
by mankind, and we could exist as long as we want to exist. Wouldn’t these
realities enhance the Human experience and bring it a greater semblance of
dignity? There are millions of individuals who die due to lack of access to
basic necessities, individuals who suffer needlessly and re-assure themselves
that their next life would be more fulfilling, or they would be treated fairly
in heaven. They have been bereft of the “true human experience”. Wouldn’t it be more sensible to transform
their mundane lives and place them in a world wherein they could have anything
they desired?
The only true objective reality
which a human being can experience is that of “thought”. “I think therefore I
am” summarizes the fact that the reality that we live in cannot be taken as “objective
reality”. With this in mind, I do not find any logical argument to deny our
race from perpetually changing the reality that we live in. It would be further
illogical to deny this right to individuals for whom our current reality is a
living hell.
As soon as it can be made possible,
Human existence as we know it must be forever altered. We must hit “Upload”
before our civilization implodes due to the limitation of our biological
carrier.
